History
Barana is a 2300 acre [940 ha] mixed farming & grazing property situated 15km north of Coolah on the North West slopes of New South Wales, Australia. We are a ‘hands on’ family business & we are in agriculture for a living not a hobby. We live & work on our farm & we understand the hardships & challenges our clients face because we are also exposed to those challenges.
Barana is also home to Barana Simmentals established in 1980. Our Simmental stud herd consists of 200 registered breeders & we have continuing sales nationwide of 50-60 bulls annually & have secured a solid client base. Stud Principal, Peter Cook, has worked hard for over 40 years breeding & showing Simmentals reinforcing Barana’s reputation with both commercial & stud cattle producers.
Our soils are predominantly self-mulching black basalt with some red basalt. The main crops grown on our farm are wheat, sorghum, barley & oats. In the past we have also grown canola & sunflowers. In a normal season we expect an average of 24” annual rainfall.
